Stepping Up to a Healthy Lifestyle

Stepping Up to a Healthy Lifestyle, a physical activity and nutrition education campaign sponsored by the Wisconsin Nutrition Education Network, was conducted in 52 counties in 2005 and 2006. Stepping Up promoted good nutrition and daily physical activity, consistent with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, to people eligible for FoodShare in Wisconsin.

This campaign provided educational materials for individuals throughout the life cycle:  older adults, adults 18-64 without children, families with children, pregnant women, teens, and youth age 8-11.  Lesson plans on a variety of nutrition and physical activity topics were adapted from a curriculum developed by Florida International University for low-income older adults.  Materials were tailored for each age group and designed to be easily adaptable for use in a variety of settings.  Physical activity lessons could be used with or without pedometers.

Materials provided for the 2006 campaign were updated to reflect the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPyramid Food Guidance System.  Several new lessons and displays were developed for 2006 and displays and handouts were translated into Spanish.
