Instruction Interests (1.0 FTE)
My instructional responsibilities focus on the application of clinical nutrition knowledge. I develop, coordinate and teach the DPD capstone course (NS 520-Applications in Clinical Nutrition). The goal of NS 520 is to help didactic students develop skills for a dietetics internship and for life-long learning. Consistent with this goal, the course emphasizes active student involvement aimed at developing teamwork, critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills. These skills complement the knowledge gained in previous coursework and allow students to solve clinical problems while working in teams. In addition, I co-teach NS 200 (The Professions of Dietetics and Nutrition), an introductory course which reviews departmental undergraduate majors and career/job opportunities.
Administration
In addition to advising approximately 30-40 students, I serve as Coordinator of the Didactic Program in Dietetics. Responsibilities include: coordinate the DPD under the direction of the Didactic Program Director; manage the general operation of the DPD; maintain Didactic program/student/alumni records and develop written materials necessary for program evaluation and accreditation/approval by the American Dietetic Association (ADA); maintain and revise curriculum and recruitment materials.
